Breeder : David Austin 1997
Culture : Easy to culture, it’s a rose of the family of Leander which guarantees force, hardiness and impeccable health. His pink apricot flowers recur throughout the season until the first frost and they smell deliciously good as a banana perfume! Plant A Shropshire Lad in the sun and treat him like all English roses and be not stingy on specific fertilizer and granules. You must take his wilted flowers away to ensure an abundant rise. Very good rose that is too little used.
Uses : It can be grown in isolated shrub or in the background of massive or hedges because he easily reaches 1m80 high in adulthood. He is also perfect in small climbing (2.5 m). Cut 1/3 of the branches in the spring to keep he’s natural blossom.
Association : As he will tend to lose roses a little at the base, it is advised to plant a few clumps of perennials at his foot: campanulas, lavender blue, pink or white.
Diseases : Very durable, it does not need chemical treatment especially if you spray with a solution of bouillie bordelaise in the late winter and Homéocult when leaves grow and three weeks later.
